5 Tips to Improve your CrossFit or Workouts

When you put some time in the trenches you begin to see a lot of reoccurring themes with those that reach their goals and those that don’t. Today’s tips are geared towards those in a group class format . 1. WRITE YOUR STUFF DOWN: We base a lot of our strength training on percentages of various 1 rep maxes on lifts. Also we have 16 bench mark workouts unique to Tidal Wave that we repeat to test various areas of fitness. If we do not have results to base those off of then you are basically hoping for the best. Use a notebook, a workout tracking app, or the Beyond the Whiteboard system we offer for all our members. 2. ASK QUESTIONS: I know when we are bouncing around the classes it sometimes can feel like it may be an inconvenience for us to answer extra questions. This could not be further from the truth. We are here to help you have the best hour of your day. Ask away ! I assure you the coaching staff will be delighted to answer any questions no matter if you perceive the questions as “dumb” or not. That is what we are here for. We only have a finite time with you each day so squeeze us for info ! 3.  DON’T ONLY COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS: When it comes time to throw down in a wod, don’t feel like you have to do everything at the advanced level or be able to complete 20 rounds of Cindy. Go at your own pace. You need to get a good workout for YOU. You need a solid foundation of strength and flexibility in order to progress into more demanding workouts. Start light, get your form down, and don’t worry about the mother of three who is deadlifting 250 as you struggle with the bar. Chase your own capacity before chasing the person next to you. Which brings me to my next point. It is okay to use someone else as motivation or a reference point but don’t let it beat you up. 4. YOUR NUTRITION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHAT YOU LIFT: Food really does matter. Once you start to care about what you put into your body, you’ll be surprised at how long you walked around feeling like crap all the time and didn’t realize it. 5, HAVE FUN: Everybody has a unique training “style” but in my experience if you walk in the door everyday like to are about to enter Thunderdome then you will burn out. Make some friends, take the head phones out, hang out after class and meet the people you just went through a tough workout with. 5 Tips to Improve your CrossFit or Workouts]]>
