So, what brought you to CrossFit Tidal Wave? -I am so glad you asked. Do you have a few minutes…you realize I am about to start talking about CrossFit. I just want to say I used to be intimidated by gyms. I would go in and hit a few machines that I was comfortable with and maybe pick up an 8lb dumbbell. Then finally last year I got a personal trainer and one day we did deadlifts. I had never really used a barbell before…so I went home and started looking up different lifts and BAM…I found tons of CrossFit Videos. I saw all these amazing, strong women doing muscle ups and lifts AND just like that I was hooked! I was already constantly talking about CrossFit and I hadn’t even stepped into a CrossFit box yet. A few months later I heard about Tidal Wave. I went to the very first class…100+ classes later I am still loving every minute of it!!!
What made you stay? -Where do I start ? There are so many reasons! We have amazing coaches with tons of experience, knowledge and serious dedication. The people! I love how Tidal Wave is not only building people’s strength, but also building amazing friendships! The environment is so positive and motivating! I love how every day is a different workout and every day you are stronger physically and mentally. Wait, you meant what makes me stay and hangout for hours after my workout, right? Ha ha!
How long have you been CrossFitting? -Almost 8 months What are some of your goals? Have they been met? -(Pre-CrossFit) my goal was always to loose a few pounds and tone up. I have been surfing for over 10 years so I had good strength base, yet I never thought about lifting weights. When I found CrossFit my goals skyrocketed and continue to everyday! My body fat percentage has dropped and I have added more muscle. *NOW I want to gain weight aka more muscle and keep getting stronger and faster. One big goal was to compete!! I have 2 competitions under my belt and am signed up for 2 more this year. I am close to or have already met some of my goals I had set for the end of the year.
Any changes to brag about? -Yes please! When I started I really wanted to do pull-ups. I started with the green band and now I can do 7-10 strict unbroken and kip many more and even butterfly a few. Most recently I did my first bar muscle-up! That was a big goal. Soooo exciting!!! OK…one more. This will put it into perspective. I think my one rep max for a deadlift was 115 at the beginning of this year and now it’s 215!
What do you do out there in the real world? -I am a photographer and video editor. I have my own biz, Artsea Productions, and I also do freelance photography in the industrial world . Do you have a favorite lift? Power or Olympic? -Deadlifts and Thrusters Your favorite WOD? -Fran and Diane…they combine my favorite lifts and bodyweight movements Favorite Song to do the WOD? -OH…that’s a tough one. I am all over the board…Hip-hop, metal, rap and most recently electronic/club. Actually…can I get some “Girl Talk”? Anything else to add? -YES! Thank you Shaun and Taylor for creating such an amazing environment for Team T-Dub. I have gained so much in the past 8 months. I am a stronger person all around. I have gained more confidence and found something I am extremely passionate about. I love how everyone has different goals, yet at the same time we are all there for the same reason“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you” Keep working hard and stay motivated Team Tidal Wave. We got this!
